2023 saw Ira Levin conclude two cycles that he conducted in six productions at the Theatro São Pedro in São Paulo since 2018. The first, of Janacek, included Katya Kabanova, The Makropulos Case and The Cunning Little Vixen, the first two were the Brazilian premieres of these works. The other, of Kurt Weill, included the The Seven Deadly Sins, The Threepenny Opera and a double bill of Der Jasager and Der Lindberghflug.

After his 2017 production of Busoni’s Arlecchino at the same theater (also a Brazilian premiere), he will conduct Busoni’s Turandot there in 2024, yet another Brazilian first, in a double bill with Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi in honor of the 100th anniversary of the death of the two Tuscan composers. Rossini‘s Le comte Ory will follow in 2024, also for the first time in Brazil.

In addition to his operatic activities, Levin continues to conduct the leading Brazilian orchestras in concert. One highlight of 2023 was a concert with the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra (OSB) in Rio which included his own orchestrations of five piano and choral works by Rachmaninoff and Reger‘s Bach Variations and Fugue, in honor of the anniversaries of the birth of those composers. He will conduct his orchestration of Busoni’s Fantasia Contrappuntistica with the same orchestra in 2024 as well as Bruckner‘s 5th symphony and other works.

He will perform Bruckner’s 3rd symphony and Nielsen’s 5th in other cities, including at the Campos do Jordão festival. Haydn‘s Stabat Mater with the famous Capela Santa Maria, and also a Maria Callas gala concert, will take place in Curitiba in March, 2024.
